Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has bought a minority stake in Swansea. The 39-year-old Croatia captain, who is contract-free at the end of the season, has made his debut as a football owner after being drawn to the “exciting opportunity” presented in south Wales.
“Swansea has a strong identity, an incredible fanbase, and the ambition to compete at the highest level,” Modric said. “Playing at the highest level, I believe I can provide my experience to the club. My goal is to support the club’s growth in a positive way and to help to build an exciting future.”
Swansea’s Recent Management Changes and Role of Luka Modric
Swansea are led by the American owners Andy Coleman, Brett Cravatt, and Jason Cohen. They sit 12th in the Championship following a renaissance under caretaker head coach Alan Sheehan.
He replaced Luke Williams in February. Swansea play Hull on Friday and have accrued 17 points from nine games under Sheehan. He will be one of the main candidates to assume the role on a full-time basis.
Swansea’s Ambition with Investment of Luka Modric
Modric’s arrival comes in the latest of a raft of changes out of the way. Tom Gorringe, of Bristol Rovers, replaced Coleman as chief executive recently. The director of football, Richard Montague, took over from Paul Watson after transferring from Notts County.
“Swansea City is delighted to announce that Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modrić has joined the club as an investor and co-owner,” Swansea said. “Luka’s investment in the club is an endorsement of the club’s ambition and vision. He will play a key role in helping the club garner global attention and progress both on and off the pitch.”
Future of Luka Modric in Real Madrid and Croatia
Modric’s investment is not believed to stand in the way of him going on to extend his playing career. He looks to lead Croatia to the 2026 World Cup and made it clear that he wishes to remain at Real Marid.
Although the departure of current manager could see Modric leave the club.
Luka Modric has won six Champions Leagues and four titles in La Liga since joining in 2012 from Tottenham.
Modric is expected to be part of the Real squad aiming to overturn a three-goal deficit against Arsenal in Champions League clash.
