A clip of a man administering a “digital snaan” to an image of auto racing icon Fernando Alonso in Haridwar has become a hit, leaving the web in stitches.
The short video, posted by social media influencer Deepak Goel on Instagram, depicts him standing over Alonso’s photo near the Ganga river. Goel said that the digital bath had been particularly requested by an Indian F1 fan ahead of Alonso’s races.

“Spain’s Fernando Alonso undergoing digital snan (digital bath) at Haridwar. The appeal was made by Bhavya of Madhya Pradesh. Digi snan is a complimentary facility,” he titled the video. In the clip, Goel is shown submerging Alonso’s photo repeatedly into the holy river as part of the prayer ritual for the two-time world champion.
Curiously, Goel initially coined the term for ‘digital snaans’ for the first time during the Maha Kumbh Mela, providing online holy baths for images for individuals who were not able to journey to Prayagraj. This off-beat and zero-cost service then brought him tremendous popularity on various social media portals.
Once the video went viral, fans inundated the comments with witty responses. Most of them teased that Alonso now has the blessings of the Ganga with him. “Please do one for my boy Nikita Mazepin and Nicholas Latifi. I think Lewis Hamilton also needs a snan at this point,” a fan posted.
One said, “Fernando Alonso does not need to see this,” while another user jokingly noted, “It’s a hard copy print put in water, so it’s not a digital snaan. For that, you need to put your phone in water.”
