Avalanche warning issued for higher reaches of Kashmir valley

The Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) has issued an avalanche warning for the higher reaches of two districts in the Kashmir valley over the next 24 hours, officials reported today.

According to the advisory, an avalanche with a “medium danger” level is expected above 2400 meters in the north Kashmir district of Kupwara and central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district during the specified period.

Residents in these areas have been urged to exercise caution and refrain from venturing into avalanche-prone zones until further notice.

The recent spell of widespread rains across the Kashmir valley, coupled with fresh snowfall in certain higher areas, has prompted this precautionary warning from authorities.

Residents of the mentioned districts have been advised to contact emergency services by dialing 112 in case of any urgent situation. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have emphasized the importance of adhering to safety guidelines during this time of heightened risk.
