A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 struck the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan on Wednesday. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) confirmed the tremor.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 121 kilometres (75 miles). Its epicentre was located 164 kilometres east of Baghlan, a city that has around 108,000 residents. EMSC first reported the quake as a 6.4 magnitude event. However, they later corrected it to 5.6 after further analysis.
Series of Tremors in Asia
This earthquake was part of a recent wave of tremors across Asia. Earlier on the same day, a quake of the same magnitude hit off the southern coast of the Philippines. AFP reported this incident, quoting the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
