Thai Man Arrested After Leaving Infant in Forest to Punish Wife Over Marital Dispute

In a troubling event from the northeastern Thai province of Buriram, a 21-year-old male, later identified as Wuttichai, purportedly left his two-week-old son in a forest to discipline his 22-year-old wife, Orathai, for denying him sex just after delivery. First reported by Channel 7 News and the South China Morning Post, the event has incited public anger and resulted to the man’s detention.

Rejection arise from marital argument

March 21 Wuttichai allegedly left their infant on the ground in a banana field and sent a picture of the deserted child to Orathai, who was visiting a buddy. The note indicated he had left the young child sometime; this caused a quick panic. Horrified, Orathai reached out on social media and showed the screenshot of their talk with the village chief to expose her husband’s behavior.

Wuttichai later came back with the unscathed infant, however.

Wife lets abuse, drug use, and gambling run free

Orathai disclosed during a police inquiry that her spouse had a drug problem, gambled much, and regularly physically struck her and their one-year-old kid. Orathai’s insistence to not have intercourse so quickly after delivery was leading to the couple’s quarrels.

Still, Wuttichai refuted abandoning his plans and told detectives he just set the kids on the ground for a photo. He confessed to regularly pestering his wife for intercourse but said, “I didn’t mean it.”

Drug Testing Verifies Abuses

Police tested Wuttichai’s urine following Orathai’s reportings and got proof of drug use. He is now under arrest and will have to go through rehabilitation following the laws of Thailand.

Legal outcomes pursuant to Thailand law

If no damage follows, under Thai law leaving a child under nine years of age could result in up to three years of detention and a 6,000 baht (about USD 180) fine.

Results of internet criticism become more powerful.

The case has outraged the internet. People on social media showed revulsion over Wuttichai’s deeds. One comment said: “Drug use, physical violence, gambling, and aggressive 12 days after delivery sexual activity.” Another individual stated, “Shame on him. I’m without words.” How can a father treat his wife and an infant like that?”
