Uttarakhand Police have arrested a man for allegedly threatening popular YouTuber Sourav Joshi with extortion. The accused, identified as Arun Kumar, hails from Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. The suspect reportedly demanded ₹2 crore from Joshi in a letter, claiming to be linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Nainital SSP Prahlad Narayan Meena stated, “A well-known YouTuber, Sourav Joshi, received a threat from someone claiming to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The letter demanded ₹2 crore within five days, failing which the YouTuber and his family would be harmed.” Due to the gravity of the situation, an FIR was promptly lodged.
The SSP explained that the police acted swiftly, solving the case in just 12 hours. Based on CCTV footage and informer tips, Arun Kumar was identified and apprehended. “In an attempt to make quick money, he searched for Sourav Joshi on YouTube, found his address, and tried to intimidate him,” Meena said.
The extortion letter, signed by someone using the name ‘Karan Bishnoi,’ threatened to harm Joshi and his family if the demand wasn’t met. Joshi, who boasts over three crore YouTube subscribers, had received the letter on Sunday, according to *The Times of India*.
The police assured that the investigation would continue to ensure the YouTuber and his family’s safety.
