Laxmi had always been a dedicated employee. She was known for her impeccable work ethic and her ability to juggle multiple projects with ease. Her colleagues admired her, and her boss often relied on her to handle critical tasks. But as the company’s client base grew, so did Laxmi’s workload. However, she didn’t pay attention to the initial signs of stress and continued working until she had a major breakdown at her work. She was diagnosed with severe stress and burnout that hampered her quality of life in a major way. Like Laxmi, many are undergoing burnout and stress at their workplace. A study by the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) found that 89% of employees in India reported experiencing workplace stress. This stress can be managed through a holistic care approach.

Yoga can be an effective remedy for workplace stress and burnout as it provides holistic benefits not only to mental health but also to physical. Through practices such as mindfulness, controlled breathing, and physical postures, yoga helps reduce stress hormones in the body while increasing endorphin levels, which enhance mood and relaxation. Regular yoga practice can improve focus and concentration, helping employees manage their workloads more efficiently and reducing feelings of overwhelm. Additionally, yoga promotes better posture and flexibility, alleviating physical discomfort from prolonged sitting or repetitive tasks.

Understanding the signs of burnout
We must understand the initial signs of burnout so that we can start our treatment procedure without any adieu. World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that burnout results from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed.

Symptoms include:
=Feeling tired and drained most of the time
=Feeling detached and emotionally distant from work and colleagues
=Difficulty concentrating and making decisions
=Anxiety and irritability
=Trouble sleeping
=Headaches and muscle tension
=Reduced productivity
If workplace burnout and stress are not treated, it can lead to serious health issues, including cardiovascular disease, depression, and a weakened immune system.

Creating a Balnced Work-Life with Yoga
Practising yoga in daily life can create a more balanced work-life. When you start the day with a short yoga session, it sets out a positive tone. Integrating mini-yoga sessions during work breaks helps to create monotony. Simple stretches and breathing exercises at the desk can relieve tension and refresh the mind. Using evening yoga to unwind and transition from work to personal time. Restorative poses and meditation can help release the day’s stress and prepare for restful sleep. Practicing mindful eating, walking, and communication will help reduce stress and enhance presence.
By integrating yoga into the workplace, employees can develop healthier coping mechanisms, fostering a more balanced and resilient approach to work challenges. This holistic approach not only enhances individual well-being but also cultivates a more positive and productive work environment. Incorporating yoga into daily life can be a powerful tool for managing burnout and workplace stress. By addressing physical, mental, and emotional well-being, yoga helps create a balanced work-life, enhancing overall health and productivity.
