During the media briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri responded with humor when asked about the sudden change in India-Maldives relations. Referencing Bollywood in his reply, Misri said, “Yaarana jaari rahega” (which translates to “the friendship will continue”). This clever remark captured the essence of the renewed ties.
Seen as a pro-China leader, President Muizzu made a surprising declaration, calling India a “valued partner and friend.” He emphasized that while the Maldives will cooperate with other countries, it remains committed to ensuring regional stability and prioritizing its partnership with India.
India and the Maldives have signed a currency swap agreement worth $400 million to help the Maldives overcome its foreign exchange issues. Additionally, both countries are set to collaborate on a range of projects, further strengthening their relationship.
