Missile Attack on Israel by Iran Sparks Global Concern

A video, reportedly showing multiple missiles launched at Israel on the evening of October 1, has surfaced on social media. This footage, released by an Iranian news agency, has left many alarmed by the intensity of the attack.

The Daily Mail shared the footage with the following statement: “An Iranian news agency released footage of what they are claiming as missiles launched towards Israel last night. Israel said more than 180 missiles were launched at them from Iran with military air defences intercepting as many as possible.” The video begins with a text insert reading, “Iranian media shows off missile launches at Israel,” and depicts missiles firing from the ground and quickly taking over the skies.

Details of the Attack:

This marks the second Iranian strike on Israel this year, following a previous attack in April. Nearly 200 ballistic missiles were launched, with Israeli defence systems intercepting most of them, although a few reportedly hit central and southern regions of Israel.

Reason Behind the Attack:

The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed the attack as a defensive response to the “violation of Iran’s sovereignty and the martyrdom” of their people. The IRGC further emphasized that this strike was in line with their right to protect their nation. According to a BBC report, the attack was ordered by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Israel’s Reaction:

Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, firmly condemned the attack, stating, “Iran made a big mistake tonight and it will pay for it.” He emphasized Israel’s commitment to self-defence and retaliation, underscoring the regime’s failure to understand Israel’s determination. In a cabinet meeting, Netanyahu added that the missile attack was largely “thwarted” by Israel’s air defence systems.

Defence Minister Yoav Gallant reinforced this stance, declaring that “Iran has not learned a simple lesson – those who attack the state of Israel pay a heavy price.” He vowed that vengeance would follow for the aggression displayed by Iran.
