US President Joe Biden, who recently withdrew from the presidential race amid concerns over his age, made a poignant appearance at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago. The President was warmly received following a speech by First Lady Jill Biden, with the crowd displaying signs that read “We love Joe.” Biden responded emotionally, expressing his gratitude: “thank you, thank you, thank you… I love you!”

Introduced by his daughter Ashley Biden, who praised him as “the love of our lives and the life of our love,” the 81-year-old President appeared visibly moved as he joined Ashley onstage. The pair shared a heartfelt moment, with Biden wiping tears from his eyes before beginning his speech.

Biden’s address kicked off with a rallying question to the audience: “Are you ready to vote for freedom, democracy, and America?” The enthusiastic response was a resounding “yes!” He then asked if they were ready to elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, eliciting an even louder cheer.

Reflecting on his presidency, Biden highlighted the challenges faced during his term, including the COVID-19 pandemic, historic joblessness, demands for racial justice, and threats to democracy. “With a grateful heart, I stand before you now on this August night to report that democracy has prevailed. Democracy has delivered, and now democracy must be preserved,” he said.

The President praised Harris while also touting his administration’s achievements and criticizing former President Donald Trump. Biden noted the national decline in violent crime and claimed that a prosecutor in the Oval Office would ensure further reductions in crime rates. He derided Trump as a “loser” for suggesting America is failing, asserting, “When he talks about America being a failing nation, he’s the loser. He’s dead wrong.”
