Journalist Mike Pesca recently took to X to critique an article from a well-regarded newspaper concerning Elon Musk’s SpaceX launch. The news report focused on claims that the launch destroyed several bird nests, which Pesca lampooned as being highlighted as the day’s most important story.
He humorously explained the front-page setup of a newspaper, stating things like how the top right story is your lead, and the top left is what is called a sub-lead. Anything above the fold is considered important news. Pesca said the paper called the destruction of nine bird nests by Musk’s successful space launch the most significant event of the day, trumping other headlines such as mounting pressure on Biden from senior congressional Democrats and surprise results from the French election.
Elon Musk reshared the post from Pesca and gave a funny comment. He said, “To balance out this heinous crime, I will avoid omelette for a whole week.” His light-hearted response turned the situation a little light as opposed to the rebuke in the Pesca post concerning the newspaper’s editorial priorities.

What did X users say about Elon Musk’s comment?
“They also, it turns out, buried the story on Boeing penalised for unconcerningly causing multiple aeroplane crashes killing hundreds,” one user wrote. Elon Musk responded, “Yeah, same newspaper, they buried the Boeing story where they killed hundreds of humans.”
“I’ll eat double so you wouldn’t be making a difference,” another person said. “What kind of birds?” a third asked, and a fourth chimed in, “I’m eating eggs with every meal for the next week to counteract this. You’re not getting out of it that easy.”
