In a troubling case from Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, a 24-year-old man named Rajkumar has accused his wife and in-laws of attempting to forcibly convert him and his infant son to Islam. The incident has sparked widespread attention, with Rajkumar appealing to both the police and the Yogi Adityanath-led state government for immediate intervention.
According to Rajkumar, who works as a confectioner and resides in Meera Sarai, he fell in love with a woman named Afroz from Shekhupur. Their marriage was solemnised through a stamp paper agreement arranged by Afroz’s family, without informing Rajkumar’s parents.
However, Rajkumar now claims that following the marriage, his in-laws began pressuring him to convert. “They took me to the mosque, forced me to offer namaaz, eat meat, and tried to convert me. When I refused, I was divorced,” he alleged. He said the couple later reconciled and began living together as per Hindu customs.
The situation escalated again recently during Eid when Rajkumar visited Afroz’s maternal home. He says he found their four-month-old son being fed meat, which he opposed. “When I resisted, the Maulana and her relatives again tried to force me into Islam. I somehow escaped with my child,” he said.
Rajkumar has now approached the Badaun SSP seeking protection. “I will not become a Muslim under any circumstances. I won’t eat meat, offer namaaz, or get circumcised,” he declared. He also expressed fear that his son could be subjected to forced conversion in the future.
Police authorities have assured that appropriate action will be taken following his complaint. An investigation into the matter is currently underway.
