The US declined to comment on the outcome of the recent Lok Sabha elections, stressing that electoral issues are for the Indian people to determine. Speaking at a press conference, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller highlighted that the US respects India’s electoral process, noting it as the largest democratic exercise globally.

“But for specific results of that election, it’s just not something we comment on,” Matthew Miller said.

The spokesperson responded to a Pakistani journalist’s query about concerns regarding India potentially becoming a Hindu state under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. However, he avoided directly addressing the claim.

Last week, Modi was sworn in for his third consecutive term, matching Jawaharlal Nehru’s record. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-led NDA secured a majority with 293 seats out of 543, with the BJP winning 240 seats alone.
