A US Secret Service agent was robbed at gunpoint in California after President Joe Biden held a fundraising event in Los Angeles. According to Politico, the security personnel had his bag stolen at gunpoint near a Southern California residential community. Officials from the Tustin Police Department confirmed that the agent fired his service weapon during the robbery, though it’s unknown whether the suspect was injured. A manhunt for the robber is ongoing.
The incident occurred when the agent was returning from work. The agent, whose identity hasn’t been revealed yet, was returning from a work assignment when the robbery happened, Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement. He did not sustain any injuries. The police department stated there is no public threat but is seeking help in identifying the robbers. Officers found some of the agent’s belongings in the area.
Biden was in Los Angeles for a star-studded fundraiser that broke Democratic fundraising records on Saturday night, raising at least $28 million. The event included a moderated conversation by late-night host Jimmy Kimmel with Biden and former President Barack Obama. Actors George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Jason Bateman, Jack Black, Kathryn Hahn, and Sheryl Lee Ralph also attended the event.
Slated to be held on November 5, the American Presidential polls are expected to see a historic rematch between Biden and Trump. President Joe Biden and the Democratic National Committee announced Monday that they raised more than $51 million in April, falling short of the $76 million that Donald Trump and the Republican Party reported raising for the month.
