UP Lightning Strikes: 38 Fatalities Reported In Single Day Disaster

At least 38 people lost their lives in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday due to lightning strikes in various incidents across the state, adding to the woes caused by widespread flooding that has paralyzed normal life.

Pratapgarh recorded the highest casualties with 11 deaths, followed by seven in Sultanpur, six in Chandauli, and significant fatalities reported in Mainpuri, Prayagraj, Auraiya, Deoria, Hathras, Varanasi, and Siddharthnagar. Dozens of individuals also suffered burn injuries, particularly in Pratapgarh where fatalities occurred in multiple regions, necessitating postmortem examinations.

In Chandauli, eastern Uttar Pradesh, heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning struck several individuals, resulting in injuries. Victims included two cousins aged 13 and 15 who were working on a farm during the downpour.

Sultanpur district witnessed the tragic loss of three children among the seven fatalities. Lightning struck victims engaged in agricultural activities such as planting paddies or collecting mangoes, as well as a woman seeking shelter under a tree during the intense rain.

Local authorities are providing medical treatment to those injured, with several individuals undergoing care at district hospitals. The incidents underscore the vulnerability of rural communities to natural disasters during the monsoon season.

As Uttar Pradesh continues to contend with flooding and the aftermath of lightning strikes, efforts are underway to support affected families and prevent further casualties in the region.

The state government has been actively coordinating relief operations and providing assistance to those impacted by the recent spate of tragedies.
