Twin cloudbursts in Jammu and Bandipora districts, Jammu and Kashmir, caused flash floods on Thursday morning, leading to significant disruption.
The first cloudburst occurred in Taryoli, part of the Akhnoor sub-division in Jammu district. The intense rainfall partially damaged a house and inundated a large area of agricultural land with mud and boulders. Gopal Dass, a local resident and eyewitness, reported that at around 3:00 AM, he heard the sound of rushing water. Upon investigation, he discovered that water and mud had begun flooding their home, prompting an immediate evacuation of family members and trapped livestock.
The second cloudburst hit the Arin area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora, resulting in heavy rainfall and widespread flooding that submerged several areas. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported from either incident.
The Meteorological Centre had issued an advisory predicting light to moderate rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir. According to the advisory, “Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at most places in J&K on August 15, with similar conditions likely at many places, especially towards late night and early morning, from August 16-20.”
