Top US general said that more than 100,000 Russian soldiers have been killed and wounded during the war in Ukraine. Joint Chief Chair General Mark Milley, said while speaking at an event that Ukraine probably suffered similar casualties,

He said, “You’re looking at well over 100,000 Russian soldiers killed and wounded. Same thing probably on the Ukrainian side.”

In his latest remarks General Mark Milley termed Russia’s military offensive in Ukraine “a tremendous mistake” for which the nation would suffer for “years and years and years to come.” He emphasised that the February-starting conflict between Russia and Ukraine had resulted in a great deal of hardship for people, including the displacement of between 15 and 30 million people and the deaths of about 40,000 civilians.

He said that there might be an opportunity on ending the war if and when the front lines stabilize during winter and  laid emphasis on “mutual recognition.”He further said, “There has to be a mutual recognition that military victory is probably in the true sense of the word may be not achievable through military means, and therefore you need to turn to other means.”

Milley said, “When there’s an opportunity to negotiate when peace can be achieved, seize it.” Speaking about US backing for Ukraine, Milley said that even in the absence of dialogue between the two countries, Washington will keep giving military aid to Kiev. Notably, the US has supported Ukraine militarily, economically, and humanitarianly since since Russia started its offensive there.

On November 9, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry asserted that Russia had lost 77,950 soldiers in the ongoing conflict between the two countries. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense announced on its official Twitter account that since the start of the conflict on February 24 the Russian army has lost 2801 tanks, 5666 armoured combat vehicles, and 1802 artillery units. Apart from this, the Russian armed forces have lost 393 multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), 205 air defence systems, 278 military jets, 260 helicopters, 1483 drones, 4227 vehicles and fuel tanks, 16 warships and boats, 159 special equipment and 399 cruise missiles.
