Hundreds of anti-Israel protesters gathered in Times Square, New York, on New Year’s Day, demanding an “intifada revolution.” The demonstration, organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, and the People’s Forum, saw attendees waving Palestinian flags and holding placards reading “Zionism is cancer,” “No war on Iran,” and “End all US aid to Israel.” Protesters chanted slogans like “There is only one solution: Intifada revolution” and “Resistance is glorious – we will be victorious.”

During the protest, a female demonstrator wearing a keffiyeh was heard shouting at counter-protesters, “We’re sending you back to Europe, you white b-ches.” Another speaker used a megaphone to declare, “2024 was a year of struggle against the crime of Zionism.”

This protest occurred just hours after a deadly car attack in New Orleans’ French Quarter, which left at least 15 people dead. The suspect, US Army veteran Shamsud-Din Jabbar, drove a truck into the crowded area, injuring about 30 others, including two police officers. The attack, which occurred near Canal and Bourbon Streets, was followed by the discovery of pipe bombs. Jabbar, who was later killed by police, had posted videos on social media indicating his ISIS-inspired intentions.
US President Joe Biden condemned the attack as “despicable” and mentioned that the FBI had found no evidence linking the assault to a fire at a Trump hotel in Las Vegas.
