Three-Storey Building Collapses In Navi Mumbai, Many Feared Trapped

A three-storey building in Navi Mumbai Shahbaz village collapsed early Saturday morning, leaving several people feared trapped under the rubble. The incident occurred around 5 a.m., prompting immediate response from local police, the fire brigade, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, who are currently engaged in a rescue operation at the site.

Kailas Shinde, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner, confirmed that the collapsed structure, a G+3 building with 13 flats, had been standing for about a decade. “Two individuals have been successfully rescued and are now in the hospital, where their condition is reported to be stable. However, two more people are still believed to be trapped under the debris,” Shinde said.

Emergency crews are working tirelessly to locate and save any remaining survivors. Shinde added that an investigation into the collapse is underway and promised that action would be taken against the building’s owner if negligence is found.

This incident follows another recent tragedy in Mumbai, where a portion of a balcony from a four-storey building, Rubinnisa Manzil, on Sleater Road near Grant Road railway station, collapsed last week. The accident resulted in the death of an 80-year-old woman and injuries to four others.

The sequence of these building failures has raised serious concerns about construction safety and building maintenance standards in the region.
