A fatal incident occurred at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1 early Friday morning when a portion of the canopy collapsed due to heavy rain, resulting in one death. According to ADO Ravinder, “The airport shed collapsed, trapping 8 individuals. The injured were rescued and taken to Medanta Hospital by PCR/CATS. Unfortunately, one trapped person was found deceased.”
In response, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) reported, “Operations at Terminal 3 and Terminal 2 for departing and arriving flights are normal. However, departing flights from Terminal 1 are canceled until 2 pm today.” Delhi police redirected traffic headed to T1 departure towards the Arrival of T1 at the CISF check post.
Fire officials confirmed that several cars were struck by roof debris at Terminal 1. “Around 5.30 am, we received reports of a roof collapse. Three fire engines rushed to the scene,” stated a Delhi Fire Services official.
Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, affirmed his personal oversight of the situation. “I am closely monitoring the roof collapse incident at T1 Delhi Airport. First responders are on-site, and I have instructed airlines to assist affected passengers. The injured have been taken to hospital, and rescue operations are ongoing,” he stated in an update.
Additionally he declared that Rs. 20 lakhs would be provided as compensation to the families of the deceased individual who tragically lost their life in the roof collapse incident at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1.
