T20 World Cup 2024: "Pathetic Performance", Says Wasim Akram on Pakistan's Defeat Against USA

Following Pakistan’s disappointing loss to the United States in the T20 World Cup, former skipper Wasim Akram didn’t mince words, labeling the team’s performance as “pathetic.” The United States secured a historic victory over Pakistan in a thrilling super over at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

Akram, speaking on Star Sports, credited the US team for their exceptional performance throughout the match. He expressed confidence, shared by Pakistani fans, that Pakistan would emerge victorious but acknowledged the exceptional cricket played by the USA.

Regarding Pakistan’s prospects, Akram expressed concern about their qualification for the Super 8 stage, especially with upcoming matches against India and other strong teams in their group. He highlighted the significance of early wickets taken by the US team as the turning point of the game.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s performance, Akram criticized their fielding and overall cricket as subpar. He emphasized the importance of showing fight until the last ball, lamenting dropped catches and lack of wickets. Ultimately, he concluded that it was a bad day for Pakistan.

Recapping the game, Pakistan managed to score 159/7, with Shaheen Afridi contributing crucial hits towards the end. In response, the USA seemed poised for victory after a strong partnership between Andries Gous and captain Monank Patel. However, Pakistan’s pacers made a comeback, leading to a thrilling super over.

Despite a strong performance by Mohammad Amir in the penultimate over, Pakistan faltered in the super over, allowing the USA to secure a 5-run win. The loss left Pakistan with a challenging road ahead in the tournament.
