AAP MP Swati Maliwal protesting at Delhi Chief Minister Atishi’s residence over the city’s contaminated water supply for its residents. She came with a bottle of ‘black’ water she said was taken from Sagarpur and Dwarka and claimed that this was what the residents got in their tap water.
The protest highlighted continuous frustrations on the supply of water and had not improved despite much promise from the government that started in 2015. While speaking to media, Maliwal shared with the media her firsthand experiences regarding the black coloration of the water coming through household taps by indicating the same was unacceptable for its residents.

Making her stand very apparent, she issued an ultimatum to the government which now has 15 days in which to take action on improving the water quality. And if they are unable to do that within two weeks, she threatened in complete seriousness, she would go back with a tanker that would have polluted water to return here. This warning highlights commitment to holding authorities accountable for what was only the failure of not continually and reliably supplying safe drinkable water.
As part of her protest, Maliwal delivered the following poignant statement: “This water is for them to bathe in, drink, or purify their sins.” This was in order to raise public concerns on the issue but to further force the government into action regarding a holistic enhancement of the Delhi water supply system.
The acts of Maliwal reflect a wider public discontent with essential services in the capital, and the ultimatum she presents is a call to the government to pay attention to the health and well-being of its citizens.
