Police reported that Aftab Alam Saiyed, a local resident, discovered a 200-litre plastic barrel containing cement concrete with the body of a woman dumped inside in Sachin, Surat, on Tuesday evening.
“As he inspected the barrel, he noticed legs protruding from the cement concrete. He promptly informed the Sachin police,” said an officer on condition of anonymity.
Authorities transported the barrel to New Civil Hospital, where it was opened using an electric cutter.
“The body of a woman was found inside. Following a post-mortem examination, it was determined that the cause of death was strangulation,” the officer stated.
The Sachin police have initiated legal proceedings under sections 103(1) and 298 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Sanhita, pertaining to murder and causing the disappearance of evidence, respectively. Further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Assistant Commissioner of Police N P Gohil commented, “We have registered a murder case against unidentified individuals… The victim appears to be aged between 25 to 30 years old… There are no other visible signs of injury on her body. She was strangled while asleep… There is no evidence suggesting sexual assault.”
