Srinagar Member of Parliament (MP) Aga Ruhullah Mehdi is set to lead a protest on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM outside the official residence of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar. The demonstration aims to address concerns regarding the region’s reservation policy.
In a post on the social media platform X, Mehdi stated, “To those who believe that the issue remains unaddressed in a satisfactory manner: I stand by my commitment. Tomorrow, I will join the people in a peaceful and dignified attempt to demand answers on their issues from the government.”
The protest follows growing discontent among the public over the reservation policy, particularly among open merit candidates who feel the current system disproportionately benefits certain groups. Mehdi has previously expressed his dissatisfaction with the policy and has threatened to join public protests if the concerns are not addressed.
In response to the planned protest, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah assured the public of the government’s commitment to addressing the reservation issue. He emphasized that the matter is being handled with due process and that the government is taking all necessary steps to ensure fairness.
The upcoming protest has garnered significant attention, with many citizens expressing support for Mehdi’s stance. The demonstration is expected to be peaceful, with participants focusing on raising genuine demands for a rational reservation policy.
As the protest approaches, both supporters and critics are closely monitoring the situation, anticipating that it may influence future discussions and decisions regarding the reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir.
