Gujarat Titans fast bowler Ishant Sharma has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also earned one demerit point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. “Ishant Sharma accepted the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s ruling is final and binding,” the official statement of the BCCI stated.
Explanation of Article 2.2 in IPL Code of Conduct
According to IPL code of conduct, Article 2.2 is about abuse of cricket clothing or equipment, ground fixtures and fittings or equipment during a match.
It also involves any act(s) outside normal cricket action(s), e.g. kicking or striking the wickets and any act(s) which intentionally (i.e. on purpose), carelessly or negligently (in either instance even if unwittingly) leads to damage of the advertising hoardings, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and fixtures and fittings.
Gujarat Titans Cruise to Victory Over Sunrisers Hyderabad
In contrast, GT completed a treble of wins to move to second position on the IPL 2025 standings with a comfortable seven-wicket win over hosts SRH.
The bowling department was again at the center of GT’s assertive performance with Player of the Match Mohammed Siraj maintaining his fantastic run of form, thanks to 4-17, his best bowling figures in the IPL, as SRH were limited to 152/8.
Poor Outing With the Ball for Ishant Sharma
Ishant, on the other hand, was the costliest GT bowler on the day after going wicketless while allowing 53 runs in his quota of four overs.
Captain Gill then guided a chase of 153 with an elegant 60 not out from 42 deliveries with Washington Sundar and Sherfane Rutherford’s unconstrained knocks getting GT over the line with a record 20 deliveries to spare.
