The Cabinet of Modi 3.0 has been sworn in and the portfolios have been allotted after lot of contemplation. Now, the Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha is likely to be selected by June 20.
Speculation abound regarding the appointment of the Protem Speaker on June 18, who will administer the oath to the elected MPs, followed by the election of the Speaker two days later.

Sources suggest that Prime Minister Narendra Modi might once again introduce a surprising candidate for the Speaker’s post. According to these sources, BJP MP D. Pundeshwari, sister-in-law of TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu, could be a potential nominee. Pundeshwari, daughter of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao and current President of BJP Andhra Pradesh, won the Rajahmundry Lok Sabha seat in the recent elections.

Speculation arose about Pundeshwari’s candidacy for Speaker after she was not included in Modi 3.0’s ministerial lineup, despite strong prospects. Known for her proficiency in multiple languages, Pundeshwari is considered well-suited for the Speaker’s role. Moreover, her familial ties to Chandrababu Naidu are seen as ensuring minimal opposition from his quarter. This potential appointment carries significant implications for Andhra Pradesh.

However, the final decision lies with Prime Minister Modi, and it will only be revealed during the selection process for the Speaker. Nonetheless, supporters of Om Birla, who served as Speaker in the 17th Lok Sabha, remain hopeful that PM Modi might grant him a second chance.
