In a special session of Parliament on Monday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressed his congratulations to all Indians for hosting the G20 Summit successfully and noted that, under the leadership of PM Modi, India has served as the voice of the Global South. He admired PM Modi’s idea of dedicating the Summit to Indian citizens, highlighting the nation’s G20 presidency’s focus on the needs of its people. Birla emphasized that this strategy will set the country on a new course in the ensuing decades.

“I want to congratulate each and every Indian for the successful organisation of the G20 Summit. I also appreciate PM Modi’s vision to dedicate this Summit to the people of the country. India’s presidency of the G20 has been people-centric and in the coming decades, it will give us a new direction. Under the leadership of PM Modi, the New Delhi declaration was unanimously accepted by the leaders of the world. India has been the voice of the Global South and under the leadership of PM Modi, the African Union became a permanent member of the G20…,” Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said.

Today at 11 a.m., the five-day special session of Parliament got underway. Prior to that, PM Modi told reporters outside of Parliament that all future decisions to make India a developed nation by 2047 will be made in the new Parliament building. The special session’s second day, September 19, will see MPs relocate to the old Parliament building, where today’s meeting will be held.
