In 2022 Eknath Shinde who spearheaded a rebellion against Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray, assumed office as the 20th Chief Minister of Maharashtra on July 30. Previously, he served as the Cabinet Minister of Urban Development and Public Works (Public Undertakings) in the state government.

The 58-year-old represents the Kopri-Pachpakhadi constituency of Thane and has been elected consecutively for four terms in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, starting from 2004.

Reflecting on his tenure, Shinde tweeted, “Today marks two years of our Government in office. The Mahayuti Government has achieved significant progress during this period. We draw our strength from Balasaheb Thackeray, and the trust of the common people of the state has been our guiding light. Over these two years, our esteemed PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have placed their faith in us, providing continuous guidance and support. Our Dy CMs Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, along with all our colleagues, have contributed valuable insights and cooperation…”

Shinde’s ascension to the chief ministerial role follows a period of political upheaval within the Shiv Sena-led coalition, signaling a new phase in Maharashtra’s governance under his leadership.
