Positive outcomes of the actions taken by Haryana police to prevent crimes against women are emerging, leading to a decrease of about 12% in crimes against women in the state in 2023 compared to the previous year. Similarly, cases related to dacoity have decreased by 30% in 2023 compared to 2022, cases of theft have decreased by 18.33%, and cases related to serious injuries have decreased by 8%.
This information was shared during a meeting chaired by the Director-General of Police, Shatrujeet Kapoor. Senior police officers from across the state participated in the meeting. The discussion in the meeting extensively covered women’s safety.
He said, ‘We need to focus on all those areas where women feel unsafe.’ He instructed police personnel to form teams of women in their respective districts who can educate miscreants harassing women in hotspot areas. Regarding this, Police Commissioner of Gurugram, Vikas Arora, mentioned that a campaign was recently conducted in Gurugram, where relatives of such delinquent boys were warned sharply.
Even after resolving complaints filed by affected women, continuous feedback will be taken from them. Kapoor stated that in this case, work will be carried out systematically in all aspects. After registering complaints related to crimes against women or their resolution, feedback will be taken from women about their well-being. During this, police personnel will ensure the safety of women to instill a sense of security in them.
Specialized teams formed in districts will undergo training by experts.
It was mentioned in the meeting that in order to control criminal incidents against women and children, specialized teams formed in each district will be trained by experts. A commendable initiative is being undertaken in Gurugram district, under which female police officers will visit schools to interact with women and girls, gathering information about their problems. They will receive training in separate batches so they can work effectively in schools, colleges, and other hotspot areas to address women’s safety challenges.
Investigation into all facts will be conducted before registering a complaint under 498A. It was informed in the meeting that regarding cases filed under Section 498A (dowry), significant decisions have been made by Haryana police. Now, after filing a woman’s complaint, only after checking and investigating all the facts, a case will be registered against the actual accused. Innocent people will not have cases filed against them. Stringent action will be taken against the real offenders. This decision will provide relief to innocent people on a large scale. No leniency will be shown towards narcotics traffickers; strict action will be taken.
