The mortal remains of Punjab Police constable Amritpal Singh, who tragically lost his life during a raid operation, were cremated with full state honours at his native village Jandaur on Monday. Amritpal Singh was fatally shot on Sunday during a police raid in Mansoorpur village, approximately 66 km away from Jalandhar. The raid aimed to apprehend Sukhwinder Singh alias Rana, suspected of harboring illegal weapons. As the police team initiated the raid at the suspect’s residence, they came under fire. Tragically, Amritpal Singh was shot in the chest during the exchange of gunfire. While the suspect managed to evade capture, the constable succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a nearby hospital. Paying their respects, several dignitaries including DIG, Jalandhar Range, S Boopathi, SSP Surendra Lamba, MLAs Karmbir Singh Ghuman and Raj Kumar Chabbewal, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Rahul Chabba attended the funeral. Expressing condolences, Punjab Police chief Gaurav Yadav pledged to ensure that justice is served for the fallen constable. Meanwhile, the residents of Jandour and neighboring areas mourned the loss of Amritpal Singh, who hailed from their village. In recognition of his sacrifice, the state government and Punjab Police announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore each to the family of the deceased constable. Additionally, a government job will be provided to one family member of Singh. A rigorous search operation is underway in Mansoorpur and surrounding areas to apprehend Sukhwinder Singh. The police have also announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for any information leading to his arrest.
