Satish Badal has impressed fans with his portrayal of a Bihari MLA in ‘Shekhar Home’, which premiered on OTT some time ago, The series is an adaptation of the iconic ‘Sherlock Holmes’ saga and stars Kay Kay Menon in the lead. Speaking exclusively to The Daily Guardian, Satish opened up about preparing for the show and his professional journey.. He also described Kay Kay Menon as a helpful co-star.

Edited excerpts from the interview:

What made you take up Shekhar Home?

The best part about taking up the show was that it gave me the opportunity to work with Kay Kay Menon. Moreover, I love detective shows a lot. I have followed Byomkesh Bakshy and Sherlock Holmes. I am pretty much a fan of this genre and was excited about the show being an adaptation of Sherlock Holmes.

How did you prepare for the series?

I, generally speaking, don’t prepare too much for a part. For me, it is all about reacting to the situation. Too much preparation may not always work as sometimes the director may have something else in mind or the framing of the scene may be different.

How is Kay Kay Menon as a co-star?

He is very easy to work with. There are no airs and you never feel that he is such a big actor. He helped me a lot during scenes. All in all, it was a nice learning experience for me.

Did you revisit Sherlock Holmes before the show?

Yes, I did that. In fact, I had watched Sherlock Holmes movies and the TV show a long time ago itself.

How has your professional journey been so far?

I have been in Mumbai for nearly 10 years and I wouldn’t say that I have struggled. However, there have been ups and downs. Things were different pre-lockdown and cracking an audition was a task. Moreover, OTT wasn’t that big. Now, post that things have changed. Films and series made for OTT platforms have opened new avenues for us. I have done work in ‘Khakee’ and ‘Kaala’ and have been noticed. You can also now audition from a familiar space.
