The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will enhance security checks for passengers at Metro stations from Friday until January 27. This heightened security measure is in preparation for Republic Day on January 26, as announced by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on Thursday. The corporation cautioned that increased security might lead to extended queues, especially during peak hours. The statement urged passengers to plan their journeys accordingly, allowing extra time for their commute, and requested cooperation during security checks.

Simultaneously, airspace restrictions are set to be in effect in the national capital for 11 days this month due to Republic Day preparations and celebrations. Airspace curbs are scheduled from January 19 to 25, as well as on January 26 and 29. Non-scheduled flights of scheduled airlines and chartered flights will be prohibited from 10 am to 1.15 pm during January 19-25, but scheduled flights will remain unaffected. Notam restrictions, issued by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), will be in place from 6 am to 9 pm from January 26 to 29. On Republic Day, January 26, no flights will be allowed to take off or land from 0600 hours to 2100 hours. However, the restrictions will not impact IAF, BSF, Indian Army aviation helicopter operations, and state-owned aircraft/helicopters flying with the Governor/Chief Minister of a state.

India is set to celebrate its 75th Republic Day on January 26, 2024, commemorating the historic date when the country transitioned to an independent republic with the enactment of the Constitution. French President Emmanuel Macron will be the chief guest, marking the sixth occasion of a French leader being the chief guest at Republic Day celebrations.
