Reddit Rallies Behind Kochi Woman Harassed by Overly Friendly Bus Conductor

A 24-year-old woman from Kochi shared her experience on Reddit, seeking advice about her interactions with a bus conductor whom she found overly “friendly.” Her post quickly gained traction, sparking a debate among Reddit users about whether the man’s behavior was merely friendly or actually creepy.

The woman described her daily commute on the same bus, which has two conductors. While one of the conductors simply gives her a ticket, the other began engaging in small talk after realizing she was a regular passenger. At first, their conversations were limited to casual greetings, but over time, the conductor’s behaviour escalated. He began poking her arm and asking about what she was watching on her phone. Eventually, he asked for her phone number, which she declined to give.

Recalling a recent incident, the woman noted that when she ignored his greeting and looked away, the conductor blocked her way as she tried to exit the bus. Another passenger had to push him aside to let her through. Concerned about his behavior, she wondered if she was overreacting or if there was cause for concern, especially considering the conductor is in his late forties or early fifties.

The post has since garnered nearly 200 upvotes and numerous comments, with most Reddit users agreeing that the conductor’s behaviour was inappropriate. Many pointed out that his actions crossed the line from friendly to creepy, particularly when he blocked her way and asked for her phone number.

One user commented, “The start didn’t seem creepy, but towards the end of what you described, it surely is. If he blocked your way and someone else had to push him out, that’s suspicious. Stay safe, ma’am.” Another user suggested, “A 40s man asking for your number is definitely crossing boundaries. Stay clear of this guy.”

A third commenter shared their own experience, noting that some middle-aged men might start with casual conversations and gradually push boundaries. “Tell him straight up the next time he pokes at your hand or let him know by actions that you won’t entertain this anymore,” they advised.

Another user recommended alerting the other conductor and, if necessary, escalating the issue: “Show strength. Don’t give an appearance of weakness. These people only target the weak.”

The woman’s story has prompted a broader conversation on Reddit about boundaries and personal safety, with many users offering support and advice on how to handle the situation.
