The Parliament witnessed another adjournment as chaos erupted, with opposition MPs raising slogans on the issue of the recent security breach. Rajya Sabha adjourned till 2 p.m., and Lok Sabha faced pandemonium, leading to its adjournment for the day. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar warned MPs Jebi Mather and Binoy Viswam about disrupting proceedings.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressed dismay at politicizing the security breach issue and the disruption caused by opposition MPs. The Speaker urged cooperation for meaningful discussions on important matters. Meanwhile, a Sri Lankan delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana was welcomed by Speaker Om Birla amidst the chaos.

Suspended MPs sat on the Parliament’s Makar Dwar stairs, with Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi meeting them. The opposition’s India bloc held a pre-session meeting, strategizing to corner the Center in both houses. The demand for a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah intensified as the opposition members sought accountability for the security breach.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge reiterated the demand for Amit Shah’s statement, criticizing the BJP-led government for obstructing parliamentary proceedings. Kharge highlighted the seriousness of the issue, stating, “They (the BJP) are not ready to let the House function. This is not a good thing for democracy, but there is no point in talking to people who do not believe in democracy.”

In response, BJP MP Jagdambika Pal emphasized the security concerns of Parliament, noting the formation of a high-power committee by the Home Ministry. He accused the opposition of deliberate politicization. BSP MP Malook Nagar urged the opposition to discuss the issue in Parliament rather than creating a stir, emphasizing the responsibility of both the ruling party and the opposition for the smooth functioning of the Parliament.
