After Opposition MPs walked out of the Rajya Sabha during Prime Minister’s speech on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address, Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed his disappointment.

He emphasized that the Leader of Opposition had been given ample time to speak without interruption, and criticized the MPs for abandoning the House, stating they had forsaken dignity.

Dhankhar asserted that their actions were not just disrespectful to him and other members but also a direct affront to the Constitution of India. He stated, “Today, they did not show me their back, they showed it to the Constitution of India. They did not insult me or you, they insulted the oath of the Constitution that they took. There can be no bigger insult to the Constitution of India than this…I condemn their conduct…It is an occasion where they have challenged the Indian Constitution.”

He further stressed that the Constitution should be embraced as a guiding principle, not merely a document, and called for introspection among the MPs to uphold their responsibilities dutifully.
