With Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra filing her nomination from Kerala’s Wayanad, Lsader of Opposotion in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to the people who lost their lives in the deadly July landslide in the state saying “you will forever remain in our hearts and your families are part of our own”.
Inca post on X, Rahul Gandhi said, “Amidst all the love and warmth Wayanad is showing Priyanka and me, we take a moment to pay tribute to the lives we lost during the tragic landslides.”
“You will forever remain in our hearts, and your families are part of our own,” he said.
His remarks came after Priyanka Gandhi filed her nomination from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat for the November 13 by polls.
He tweeted a picture a of the massive crowd that gathered during the road show of Priyanka Gandhi ahead.of filing her nomination. The photograph also had two roses kept on the vehicle as mark of tribute to the people who died during the deadly July landslide that claimed more than 300 lives.
During her nomination, Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and entire top leadership of the party was present during the roadshow and public meeting in Wayanad.
Rahul and Priyanka, both had visited Wayanad on August 1 and 2 and met with the familes, children who had lost their members in the landslide in Churalmala area of Wayanad.
The Congress leaders also visited several of the relief camps and hospitals to take stock of the relief and rescue operation.
Rahul Gandhi had vacated the seat of Wayanad after he retained the sest of Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli.
The Congress decided to field Priyanka Gandhi from Wayanad seat as Rahul Gandhi had always mentioned people of Wayanad as his family.
Priyanka Gandhi, who had campaigned for the first time with her father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1989, is making her poll debut from Wayanad.
She had earlier campaigned extensively for her mother and CPP chairperson Sonia Gandhi and her brother Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, Rae Bareli and Wayanad.
She had come with Rahul Gandhi to Wayanad after the Supreme Court revoked his disqualification and held a road show with him.
Wayanad will go to polls on November 13 and counting of votes will take place on November 23.
