Punjab: 7-Year-Old Killed, 5 Injured As School Van Crashes Into Tree In Jagraon

In a heartbreaking incident on Tuesday morning, a school van veered off course and crashed into a tree on Raikot Road in Jagraon subdivision, Ludhiana district. The accident claimed the life of seven-year-old Gurman Singh, a Class 1 student from Akhara village, who was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. Five other children, who were also in the van, have been hospitalized but are reported to be in stable condition.

The van, which was carrying 25 children, lost control and collided with the tree. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver, Chamkaur Singh, fled the scene immediately after the crash, abandoning the vehicle. Police are actively searching for Singh, who is suspected of being intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Inspector Amritpal Singh, the station house officer of Jagraon city, confirmed that the driver has not yet been apprehended. Meanwhile, some children with minor injuries received first aid and were later discharged from the hospital.

The incident led to significant unrest among parents, who staged a protest and blocked Raikot Road, demanding the arrest of the driver and accountability for the tragic accident.
