Two Pune Police officers were suspended on Friday for neglecting to report the Porsche accident involving a teenager to the wireless control room, resulting in the deaths of two software engineers.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated that Police Inspector Rahul Jagdale and Assistant Police Inspector Vishwanath Todkari, stationed at Yerwada police station, were suspended.

Earlier, the police commissioner raised concerns about potential evidence tampering to suggest that the Porsche involved in the accident was driven by the family driver, not the 17-year-old son of realtor Vishal Agarwal, who was allegedly behind the wheel.

“We have CCTV footage of him (the juvenile) drinking liquor in the pub. Our case doesn’t solely rely on the blood report; we have other evidence too. He was fully aware that his actions could lead to such an accident,” Kumar emphasized.

Addressing allegations of preferential treatment towards the juvenile, the Pune Police commissioner clarified, “We’ve stated that there wasn’t a pizza party at the police station. However, there was an incident that prompted an internal investigation. We aim to build a solid case.”

Vishal Agarwal, the accused’s father, and five others have been remanded to judicial custody until June 7 by a local court. Despite the prosecution’s request for further police custody to continue the investigation, the court opted for judicial custody. This includes Agarwal and individuals associated with two liquor-serving establishments where the teenager purportedly consumed alcohol before the fatal accident.
