Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, accompanied by her mother Sonia Gandhi, arrived in Kerala on Tuesday and is set to file her nomination for the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll today. The Congress general secretary reached Mysore on Tuesday evening before heading to Wayanad later that night.
Upon their arrival in Mysore, the two leaders received a warm welcome from party members and local supporters. They also visited the homes of ex-servicemen before proceeding to Wayanad.
Priyanka is expected to file her nomination papers on Wednesday, with key party figures including Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi by her side. This bypoll will mark Priyanka’s first entry into electoral politics.
Rahul Gandhi, who previously held the Wayanad seat and vacated it for his sister, expressed confidence in her candidacy. He stated that Priyanka would be a passionate advocate for the needs of Wayanad and a strong voice in Parliament. “The people of Wayanad hold a special place in my heart, and I can’t imagine a better representative for them than my sister,” he shared on X.
On Monday, Priyanka met with Kharge in Delhi to strategize for the elections. Before filing her nomination, she and Rahul will lead a roadshow from Kalpetta New Bus Stand in Wayanad.
If Priyanka wins in Wayanad, she will become the third member of the Gandhi family to serve in Parliament. She will face off against Navya Haridas from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Sathyan Mokeri from the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the bypoll.
