A recent report highlights the emotional impact of Prince Harry’s tribute at his late uncle’s funeral, which left many attendees deeply moved and surprised.
Despite earlier speculation that he might not attend, Prince Harry made the trip across the Atlantic to honor his late uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes. According to a source who spoke with PEOPLE, the memorial service was highly emotional, and Harry’s heartfelt tribute astonished those present.
One attendee remarked on Harry’s unexpected presence, noting, “Most people were astounded that Harry came. He was in remarkably good spirits and seemed very pleased to see everyone. He was glad he made the journey.”
The funeral took place on August 29, just two days before the anniversary of Princess Diana’s death, adding to the significance of Harry’s visit. Although his brother, Prince William, was also there, the brothers reportedly did not interact, despite ongoing speculation about their relationship.
During the service at St. Mary’s Church in Snettisham, Norfolk, Prince Harry and Prince William sat with different groups of their maternal cousins. Reports indicate that Harry did not visit his father, King Charles, at Balmoral Castle, where the King is undergoing cancer treatment.
While the funeral did not lead to the expected family reunions, Harry spent meaningful time with his maternal relatives, including Fellowes’s widow, Lady Jane, Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer, and Lady Sarah McCorquodale.
Both princes have strong ties to their mother’s side of the family. Fellowes’ daughter Laura is a godmother to Princess Charlotte, and some Spencers had previously supported Harry at a service in May for his Invictus Games.
A royal insider commented on Harry’s attendance, stating, “It was lovely and appropriate that he came to pay his respects.” Another source suggested that, given recent health challenges within the royal family, Harry is seeking closer connections with his relatives, reflecting his deep bond with his mother’s side of the family.
