PMK Member Stabed In Tamil Nadu Sparks Political Concern

In a shocking incident in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, a functionary of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) was brutally attacked by assailants on motorcycles outside his residence. The victim, identified as Sivasankar, a prominent cable TV operator and leader within the Vanniyar Sangam, suffered severe injuries in the assault.

The attack, which occurred on Saturday evening in Thirupapuliyur, was captured by CCTV cameras nearby. The footage shows four individuals armed with daggers fleeing the scene after assaulting Sivasankar. He sustained critical injuries to his neck, mouth, and shoulder and was initially rushed to a local hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, he has since been transferred to JIPMER for further medical care.

PMK, a key ally of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu, has condemned the attack. Founder Anbumani Ramadoss criticized the state police for what he described as negligence in providing security to Sivasankar, despite alleged previous threats. Ramadoss highlighted that Sivasankar had been a witness in a previous murder case involving his brother, and despite threats against him, no protective measures were taken by the authorities.

This incident reflects the deteriorating law and order situation across Tamil Nadu,” Ramadoss asserted. He further lamented the rise in such violent incidents and questioned the state government’s response under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s leadership.

In response to the attack, Tamil Nadu police have swiftly taken action, arresting four suspects, including a minor, in connection with the assault on Sivasankar. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the motives behind the attack and to ensure justice for the victim.

The incident follows closely after the recent murder of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Tamil Nadu chief K Armstrong, sparking widespread concern and political outcry over the safety and security of political figures and activists in the state.
