Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently held a meeting to assess the prevailing heatwave situation in India, and monsoon preparedness before the upcoming rain season at his house in Delhi.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister was informed that the heatwave would continue in parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.
Further, the PMO (Prime Minister Office) also stated, that monsoon will most likely be normal and above normal in most parts of the country with exception of Peninsular India, which will witness below normal rainfall.
Furthermore, Modi has directed, that proper drills for preventing and handling fire incidents should be conducted on a regular basis.
Moreover, he recommended that regular drills focusing on forest fireline maintenance, and the efficient utilization of biomass should be planned.
Later, the Prime Minister was briefed on the significance of the “van agni” portal in promptly identifying and managing forest fires.
The meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary to the PM, Cabinet Secretary, Home Secretary, Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, DG of NDRF, and Member Secretary of NDMA, as well as other senior officials from the PMO and relevant Ministries.
The heatwave persists across various regions of the country, resulting in 56 casualties confirmed National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
