In a remarkable occurrence, a patient was observed playing video games during surgery, a moment captured and shared on Instagram by Dr. Sumit Ghosh, an anaesthesia technologist, and Dr. Pinky Mukherjee, a dialysis technician. They captioned the video with, “Anaesthesia kisi ko pain nahi deta (Anaesthesia doesn’t give pain to anyone).”
The video shows the patient lying on a hospital bed in an operating room, surrounded by surgeons performing the procedure. Despite the seriousness of the situation, the patient remains focused on playing video games on their mobile phone.
This unique surgical moment quickly went viral on social media, garnering nearly 100 million views and over a million likes since it was posted.
In a separate instance that gained attention earlier, a man named Christian Nolen was filmed playing a guitar during his brain surgery at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Ricardo Komotar led the surgery, during which Nolen needed to remain conscious to allow the medical team to assess and preserve his manual dexterity while removing a tumour.
The video shows Nolen singing along with his guitar as the procedure progresses. Dr. Komotar also appears in the video, discussing Nolen’s recovery process and the surgical steps involved.
Reflecting on his experience, Nolen shared with WSVN Miami, “It was just like out of this world, like, to just wake up and have people actively working inside of your head. It’s kind of an insane feeling.” He expressed gratitude for his recovery progress, particularly in being able to resume activities like going to the gym, which are significant parts of his life.
