According to Geo News, a special court established under the Official Secrets Act on Wednesday extended the judicial remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and party vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the cipher case until September 26.

Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, has been imprisoned after his conviction in the Toshakhana case on August 5. Despite the fact that the Islamabad High Court rejected the lower court’s decision to imprison him for three years and punish him 100,000 Pakistani rupees (PKR), according to a Geo News report. However, Imran Khan remains imprisoned as a result of his detention in the cipher case.

According to Geo News, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested Imran Khan in a cipher case in August after arresting him under the Official Secrets Act.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) expressed disappointment last week over the tricks being used to delay the hearing of Imran Khan’s cipher case, alleging that it was an attempt to deprive him of the right to a fair trial and prolong his detention in Attock jail, according to Pakistan-based Dawn.

The PTI Committee stated at its meeting that the reluctance to hear the bail application of their party’s Chief is a source of considerable concern since the judge handling the cipher case went on a week-long leave.

“Imran Khan’s cases are the worst examples of discriminatory justice, as first he was awarded punishment in the false case of Toshakhana in an extraordinary haste by flouting the law and justice and now efforts are being made to deprive him of justice by making various tricks to delay the hearing of the cypher case,” it stated, according to Dawn.

According to Dawn, the core committee stated that the case of PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi was also put on hold due to the departure of the special judge. According to Dawn, the judge handling the case had gone on leave till the end of the week.
