Arrest warrants have been issued for government personnel in Pakistan who have failed to fulfill their electoral duties for the 2024 elections, according to ARY News.
This decision was made at an emergency meeting called by the Returning Officer of Sehwan in Jamshoro.
According to ARY News, the conference was led by Sehwan’s Returning Officer and addressed the noncompliance of government officials with their assigned election tasks.
As a result, the Returning Officer directed the police to take action against the 134 government employees who refused to complete their assigned election tasks.
According to ARY News, the district administration has issued orders for the arrest of these government personnel from various departments, including education, health, and water supply, by the Returning Officer’s directive.
These employees’ reluctance to fulfill their electoral obligations is cause for considerable worry.
Earlier this week, in Karachi, arrest warrants were issued for 267 Sindh health department officials who were absent from their electoral duties.
The warrants were issued by Muhammad Hayyat, the Returning Officer for PS-110-Karachi, South. The personnel, including women, have frequently missed their allocated election tasks, necessitating the issue of arrest warrants.
In response to these occurrences, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan stated in a press release issued following the meeting on February 1 that those attempting to disrupt the votes by disturbing the peace will face severe consequences.
He also underlined the need of keeping peace throughout the electoral process. He warned that anyone seeking to disrupt the polls would face severe penalties.
The issuing of arrest warrants demonstrates the authorities’ commitment to guaranteeing the smooth running of elections and the performance of electoral duties by government employees. Any attempts to impede the electoral process would result in severe legal consequences.
