Pak-Based Terrorists Behind Deadly Gulmarg Ambush; Massive Search On

In response to Thursday evening’s attack on an army convoy near Gulmarg, security forces launched extensive search operations across Gulmarg, Butapathri, and surrounding forested regions. Using drones and helicopters, the search was intensified after information surfaced about terrorists fleeing into the forest range connecting the LoC, Uri, Baramulla, and Budgam.

The Attack and Casualties

The attack took place 6 kilometers from Gulmarg when terrorists ambushed two army vehicles transporting soldiers and civilian porters to the Nagin post. Rifleman Jeevan Singh, Rifleman Kaisar Ahmad Shah, and two civilian porters, Mushtaq Ahmad Chowdary and Zahoor Ahmad Mir, lost their lives in the ambush. A defence spokesperson condemned the deliberate targeting of Kashmiri civilians, attributing the attack to Pakistan-based terrorists aiming to destabilize the Valley.

Terrorist Group Claims Responsibility

The People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAAF), believed to be an affiliate of the Jaish-e-Mohammed, claimed responsibility for the ambush, escalating tensions in the region. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid homage to the fallen soldiers, asserting that their sacrifice would not be forgotten.

Political Reactions to the Attack

The attack ignited a political debate. Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, criticized the central government for failing to maintain security in the region. In contrast, BJP leaders condemned Pakistan’s role in the attack, with J&K BJP chief Ravinder Raina asserting that the perpetrators “will not be spared.”

Unified Headquarters Announces New Counter-Strategy

Lieutenant General Kumar shared that the Unified Headquarters has developed a new strategy focusing on building trust between civilians and the military to foster peace and counter insurgent narratives. The new strategy aims to strengthen the influence of mainstream voices and nationalist sentiment, particularly among Kashmiri youth.

Calls for an End to State-Sponsored Terrorism

National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah urged Pakistan to cease state-sponsored terrorism, emphasizing that attacks harm the lives and future of Kashmiris. Other leaders, including Sajad Lone and Mehbooba Mufti, condemned the incident and expressed condolences to the families of those who died.
