Farmers furious as compensation for flood damages yet to reach many of them

Farmers from the BKU staged a protest at the SDM office, submitting a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the SDM. Led by Pradhan Kavaljeet Virk and youth leader Sukhvinder Mukimpura, hundreds of farmers gathered, demonstrating against the government.

Prince Vardhaich, the state spokesperson for BKU, addressed the farmers, alleging that the government had mocked the farmers under the guise of compensation. He highlighted discrepancies in reporting flood damages, which deprived many farmers of compensation. Numerous farmers who cultivate leased land or have damages exceeding five acres haven’t received full compensation.

Some villages, despite verified losses, have not received even a rupee in compensation. Vardhaich mentioned that over 1.41 lakh farmers in the state demanded compensation, but only less than 40,000 received it. Furthermore, no compensation was provided for tube well damages, livestock losses, or sugarcane crop damages by the government. After the protest, hundreds of farmers submitted complaint letters via the portal to the SDM, informing them of ongoing water issues in Adhoya village without compensation.
SDM Sonu Ram assured the reopening of the compensation portal, enabling farmers to register complaints and restart the compensation process, considering the removal of the five-acre condition. The memorandum from the farmers will be sent to the Chief Minister.

Several officials and leaders accompanied the protest, including the Deputy Tehsildar, SHO, Block Pradhan, and others, standing with hundreds of present farmers.
