In a bizarre and brazen act of theft, a man was caught on camera stealing a Shesh Nag idol from a Shiva temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur. The incident took place at the Shri Sidheshwarnath Mahadev Temple located in Ganeshganj Mohalla, under the jurisdiction of Katra Kotwali police station.
Thief Poses as Devotee, Walks Away with Idol
The theft, which came to light on Saturday, April 19, was captured in CCTV footage now circulating widely. The video shows the man entering the deserted temple compound, appearing to offer incense sticks. After a few seconds of scanning the surroundings and ensuring no one was watching, he quietly grabs the Shesh Nag idol, stuffs it into his bag, and casually walks out of the temple.
The Shesh Nag idol, typically seen placed around Lord Shiva’s idol in temples, holds great religious significance for devotees.

Police Ordered to Take Swift Action
Following the viral video, local authorities have sprung into action. According to reports, the Inspector in charge of Kotwali Katra has been directed to investigate the matter and take necessary steps to nab the culprit. The temple committee has also filed a complaint, seeking the safe return of the idol.
Local residents expressed shock over the theft. “It’s not just about the idol, it’s about hurting our faith. This is deeply disturbing,” said a temple-goer from the area.
The police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and are hopeful that the thief will be identified and arrested soon.
