Round 2 of the Norway Chess Tournament 2024 witnessed all three classical games ending in a draw at Spare Bank on Tuesday.

Players like Magnus Carlsen, Alireza Firouzja and Ding Liren managed to win the game with white in the Armageddon games, getting 1.5 points each.

India’s chess prodigy Praggnanandhaa R, who enjoyed played 2-0 head-to-head lead against world champion Ding Liren, played his first classical draw in the 2nd round of Norway chess’s main event.

Resulting in Liren winning the game in Armageddon tie-breaker.

Meanwhile, another Indian player Vaishali R managed to win against another Indian Koneru Humpy. Thus, emerging victorious in her maiden classical win in Norway’s women chess tournament.

Despite Koneru’s upper hand at the start of the game, a blunder due to pressure of time, allowed Vaishali to claim her win against India’s number one female player.

Thus, becoming India’s number two female player in live chess rating list.

Match Of Other Players 

A highly interesting match was witnessed between Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura. Between them, a tight contest was witnessed. Thus, ending in a draw.

But Carlsen, held his nerves under pressure and ultimately, secured a major victory, also adding to exceptional Armageddon record. Taking the lead of 3 points in the tournament.

In this tournament, the classical game between Alireza Firouzja and Fabiano Caruana, also ended in a draw. But what was notable in this contest, was Firouzja’s exceptional abilities in speed chess in the Armageddon game, where he managed to acquire crucial 1.5 points.

Also, the games between Lei Tingjie and Pia Cramling & Ju Wenjun and Anna Muzychuk ended in a draw.

But, both Wenjun and Tingjie managed to win their respective Armageddon game.
