Noida International Airport’s Launch Halted by Construction Delays; Inauguration Postponed to April, 2025

The opening of Noida International Airport, initially scheduled for the end of this year, has been postponed to the end of April 2025. This greenfield airport is being developed in the Jewar area of Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district, approximately 75 km from Delhi.

Current Status and Construction Delays:

The airport, which is set to be a significant addition to the infrastructure of Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh, has encountered construction delays. Reports indicate that these delays have pushed back the operational commencement to April 2025.

Airport Statement and Ongoing Work:

In a recent statement, the airport management cited the current construction status and emphasized their commitment to maintaining a high pace of construction activities. “We expect to begin commercial operations by the end of April 2025,” the statement read. The airport is collaborating with Tata Projects Limited and other stakeholders to ensure the timely completion of construction and operational preparations.

“We are committed to our goal of delivering a sustainable and world-class airport for Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh,” the airport added. Despite delays, the construction work is reported to be at advanced stages, with significant milestones being achieved regularly.

Key Construction Updates:

The airport management highlighted that the runway, passenger terminal, and control tower are all well into the advanced stages of construction. Additionally, recent concessions for ground handling, commercial area operations, and crucial maintenance contracts have been awarded. Agreements have also been signed with several airlines for flight operations from Noida International Airport.

Project Scale and Future Plans:

The Noida International Airport project, a mega public-private partnership initiative by the UP government, is set to become India’s largest airport upon completion. Spanning over 5,000 hectares, the airport will be developed in four phases. The first phase will feature a single runway and a terminal building capable of handling 12 million passengers annually.

As construction progresses, the next few weeks are deemed crucial for the project’s timeline. Despite the delays, the airport is on track to become a significant hub for both passengers and cargo, promising to boost connectivity and economic growth in the region.
